Railways Luggage Rules: Every day, millions of people travel by train, but many are unaware of the rules governing train travel. While on a journey, people often carry multiple bags and a substantial amount of luggage. However, it’s essential to know that there are specific rules regarding luggage when traveling by train.
Similar to the restrictions on luggage weight for air travel, there are rules in place for train travel as well. Indian Railways has established weight limits for luggage based on the type of coach you’re traveling in. The luggage allowance is 40 kg for sleeper coaches, 50 kg for AC two-tier, and 70 kg for AC first class.
Exceeding these weight limits may result in the Railways imposing additional charges, with a potential fine of Rs 654. If your travel distance is within 500 kilometers and your luggage exceeds 40 kg, you may be subject to a fine of Rs 109. It’s crucial to be aware of these regulations to ensure a hassle-free train journey.
