PAN-Aadhaar Must Be Linked Before March 2023; Check And Link Now!

The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) has previously said that PAN will become “inoperative” after March 31, 2023, if it is not linked to Aadhaar.

The CBDT has extended the deadline for linking PAN to Aadhaar from March 31, 2022, to March 31, 2023. However, Rs 1000 is required to begin the linking process. According to a notice from the IT department, if people don’t link their PAN to Aadhaar by March 31, 2023, their PAN number would expire.

In compliance with current regulations, the government has made it mandatory to link your PAN and Aadhaar number. Although the linking process is subject to legal constraints, the government and taxpayers benefit from it as well.

 “As per Income-tax Act, 1961, the last date for linking PAN with Aadhaar is 31.3.2023, for all PAN holders who do not fall under the exempt category, failing which the unlinked PAN shall become inoperative,” according to a recent Tweet from the Income Tax Department.

To link your PAN with your Aadhaar, you can follow the steps given below:

1. Go to the Income Tax Department of India’s official website at https://www.incometaxindiaefiling.gov.in/.
2. On the homepage, select the “Link Aadhaar” link found in the “Quick Links” section.
3. After that, you must enter your PAN, Aadhaar number, and name as it appears on your Aadhaar card on a new page.
4. After entering the page’s Captcha code, press the “Link Aadhaar” button.

How to Check the Status of Aadhaar-PAN Linking 

a) To file your income tax electronically, go to incometax.gov.in.
c) Find the “Link Aadhaar Status” option.
c) Select “View Link Aadhaar Status” after entering your PAN and Aadhaar number.
d) If your PAN is linked to your Aadhaar, a message will show up on your screen.
Your PAN (10 digits) and Aadhaar (12 digits) card will be linked.
