The government can develop such a facility, removing the need for toll plazas. To address such issues, the central government intends to implement a new toll collection system. The government intends to implement a new GPS-based toll system known as ANPR (Automatic Number Plate Reader) cameras for toll collection in the near future.
How will this GPS based system work?
This ANPR (Automatic Number Plate Reader) system will read the license number of the vehicle, after which the toll tax will be deducted from the vehicle owner’s bank account. The cameras installed at the entry and exit points will be used in this system. These cameras will photograph the numberplate and deduct toll tax from the vehicle number. This new ANPR system may prove to be a better alternative to Fastag.
According to a report by the Transport Corporation of India and IIM Calcutta, approximately Rs 1 lakh crore of oil is wasted due to vehicles stuck at toll plazas, and approximately 45 thousand rupees are lost each year due to toll plaza jams. There is a loss of crores of rupees, i.e., the country loses 1 lakh 45 thousand crores as a result of toll nakas. In such a case, the GPS system will be activated soon to save your pocket and the country’s economic loss.
Vehicle number plate may also change
The government could also make a major change to the license plate soon. Now the new license plate will have a GPS with the vehicle number. Recently, the Union Department of Transport made it mandatory to fit GPS license plates on new vehicles. As a result, new license plates must now also be fitted to older vehicles.
In addition, new GPS will be installed in these new number plates. In addition, at the toll plaza, software will be installed that will deduct toll tax money from your account as soon as the vehicle leaves. The numberplate installed in your vehicle will no longer be standard, but will instead include a GPS system. The Union Transport Ministry has ordered that GPS number plates be installed in new vehicles.
On the other hand, with older vehicles, the old license plate must be removed and a new license plate must be installed. The GPS system is attached to the license plate. At the same time, software is installed that automatically reduces the toll as soon as you reach the toll booth.
